Interstate 490 is a tiny east-west freeway stub in the city of Cleveland. Just south of downtown Cleveland, a four-way interchange serves Interstate 90, Interstate 71, and Interstate 490. Interstate 90 comes in from the west, and turns toward the north, and the southern leg is the northern extent of Interstate 71. This leaves the eastern leg, which is the western beginning of Interstate 490. Interstate 490 crosses the Cuyahoga River as a freeway soon after getting started. After only two miles, Interstate 490 meets a four-way stack interchange with Interstate 77. The freeway abruptly ends just east of the interchange, at an at-grade intersection with a connector to E. 55th Street. The roadway continues east as a four-lane surface highway called the Opportunity Corridor (Ohio Route 10).
As with all of the Ohio Interstate pages, more information and a full exit list will come in the future. For now, enjoy this general information and a photo of the signage, in a similar fashion to how I do the state and US highway pages.
My photo of Interstate 490 signage comes from the corner of Quigley Road and E. 7th Street in Cleveland. Travelers going northeast on Quigley Road will see this sign as a guide to Interstate 490, which can be accessed along E. 7th Street. The only intermediate interchange along Interstate 490, between Interstates 71 and 77, leads to E. 7th Street. This photo was taken during the grand tour of Northeast Ohio in October 2022.
