Indiana State Route 550 is a designation used on two separate highways in southwestern Indiana. The western iteration of Indiana Route 550 flanks around Vincennes to the northeast, running southeast from US Route 41 at Emison to US Route 50 (and 150) at Wheatland. The eastern section of Indiana Route 550 runs from US Route 50 and 150 in Loogootee, southeast to another piece of US Route 150 south of Shoals, where US Routes 50 and 150 split up. One might think of the eastern section of Indiana Route 550 as a scenic alternative to US Route 150. All of the western section of Indiana Route 550 is in Knox County, and all of the eastern section is in Martin County.
My photo of Indiana Route 550 sits in the middle of the highway's western segment. The trailblazer depicted faces southeast toward the junction of State Routes 550 and 67, in Bruceville. Traffic turning off of Indiana Route 67 to go northwest on Indiana Route 550 will see this trailblazer, showing them that they made the right (or wrong?) choice. Back to the Indiana main page.
