Interstate 66 connects Washington, D.C. to points west, in northern Virginia. An interchange with K Street, carrying an east-west portion US Route 29, marks the eastern end of Interstate 66 in Washington. From there, Interstate 66 heads just a bit south to a bridge west across the Potomac River, into Virginia. Toward the west end of northern Virginia, Interstate 66 ends. This western endpoint is an interchange with Interstate 81 near Strasburg, Virginia, ten miles south of Winchester.
My photo featuring Interstate 66 route markers comes from an interchange north of Warrenton, Virginia, where US Route 17 joins Interstate 66 west, having just exited Warrenton to the north. US Route 17 follows Interstate 66 west from here for a short concurrency before reaching its final northern stretch. The sign assembly shown faces south, pointing out the upcoming turn that northbound traffic can use to access Interstate 66's eastbound onramp. This photo was taken during the Virginia trip of April, 2021. Back to the nationwide main page. Back to the home page.
