US Route 521 runs from the southern periphery of Charlotte, North Carolina, south and southeast to Georgetown, South Carolina, on the Atlantic Coast. All but three miles of the route are in South Carolina. The northern end is at Interstate 485's southern leg; for context, Interstate 485 is the beltway around Charlotte. From that northern terminus, US Route 521 runs southward, east of the Interstate 77 corridor, then its runs southeastward, northeast of Interstate 26. It connects to some important towns in South Carolina, including Camden and Sumter. The southeastern end in Georgetown is an intersection with US Route 17. That intersection is right alongside the southern endpoint of US Route 701.
My photo for US Route 521 comes from an interchange outside of Manning, South Carolina, where the highway meets Interstate 95. The photo faces north at the latter end of the offramp from Interstate 95 southbound; because the ramp makes a 180-degree turn, the signage shown actually faces south. This photo was taken during my day-long detour around South Carolina in July 2019. Back to the nationwide main page. Back to the home page.
