Michigan Highway 97 is a highway in the northeastern portion of Metro Detroit. It runs roughly north-south, using Gunston Avenue, Hoover Street, and Groesbeck Highway. The southern end of Michigan Highway 97 is a split from Michigan Highway 3 in Detroit. Michigan Highway 3, which runs north-northeasterly, gives way to the southern beginning of Michigan Highway 97, which runs north-northwesterly along Gunston Avenue. Soon, Michigan Highway 97 turns northerly along Hoover Street, and then north-northeasterly on Groesbeck Highway. The north-northeasterly portion along Groesbeck Highway comprises the overwhelming majority of Michigan Highway 97; this main portion roughly parallels Michigan Highway 3's north-northeasterly path. The northern end of Michigan Highway 97 is at Michigan Highway 59 near Mount Clemens.
My photo of Michigan Highway 97 shows the northern end marker, placed at the junction with Michigan Highway 59. Having just passed through the west side of Mount Clemens, Michigan Highway 97's north-northeasterly journey comes to an end at the Michigan-style boulevard carrying Michigan Highway 59. Note that the arrow directing travelers to Michigan Highway 59 only points to the right; that's because drivers seeking to use Michigan Highway 59 westbound must turn easterly and then do a U-turn (the classic "Michigan left"). This photo was taken in April 2021 during a trip across Metro Detroit and the Michigan Thumb.
