Ohio State Route 872 is a tiny east-west route connecting Ohio State Route 7 to the Moundsville Bridge over the Ohio River. The route is only about one-half mile in length, and the eastern terminus is the West Virginia state line. First, the route begins at a diamond interchange from Ohio State Route 7 about 10 miles south of Wheeling, West Virginia. Then, the bridge over the Ohio River brings travelers to the town of Moundsville, in West Virginia. Ohio Route 872 has the unique distinction of being numbered in honor of not one but two different routes: the "7" comes from Ohio Route 7, and the "2" comes from West Virginia Route 2. Ohio Route 872 connects these two different routes in the two different states.
My photo for Ohio Route 872 comes from the end of the exit ramp from northbound Ohio Route 7. Soon after drivers see this sign, they will turn right onto Ohio Route 872 and see the Moundsville Bridge in front of them. This photo was taken in March 2021 as part of the big southeast Ohio trip.
