^An exit sign to Iowa 146 seen along US Route 30 eastbound, July 2017.
Iowa Route 146 is a north-south highway in central Iowa, east of Des Moines. It's known for being the main highway for accessing Grinnell, Iowa, home of Grinnell College. Iowa Route 146's northern end is at US Route 30 in Le Grand, Iowa. From there, the highway goes south through Grinnell and its interchange with Interstate 80, to end at US Route 63 in New Sharon. Iowa Route 146 is about 43 miles long, and Grinnell is right in the middle of those 43 miles.
My photo of Iowa Route 146 comes from the southern end in New Sharon, at its junction with US Route 63. US Route 63 enters New Sharon from the west, and turns left at the junction in this photograph to resume going south. The aperture faces west at the signage indicating that a right turn will place an observer of this sign onto the southern start of Iowa Route 146. I'm not sure why one supplemental arrow has the vertical element to it and the other does not, but here we are. Back to the Iowa main page. Back to the home page.
