^Looking south from Exit 12, the exit to Lockland, August 2024.
Interstate 75 runs north-south across western Ohio, linking Toledo, Dayton, and Cincinnati. It actually enters the state at Toledo, crossing out of Michigan from the north, and it exits the state crossing into Kentucky at Cincinnati. This pathing through Ohio doesn't yield a perfectly north-south meridional route, so significant diagonal section exists between Findlay and Lima, in northwestern Ohio.
Interstate 75's first purpose in Ohio is to link Toledo to Detroit. It enters with a southwesterly orientation, but corrects to southerly in Toledo. In Toledo, Interstate 75 runs right alongside downtown. Next, Interstate 75 heads south past Bowling Green to Findlay, where there is an important fork in the road. A freeway carrying Ohio Route 15 and US Route 68 splits off to the east as a link to US Route 23's expressway; this forms a very popular route to Columbus from northwest Ohio and points north (Michigan). Interstate 75 angles southwesterly from here, so choose wisely between the freeway toward Columbus and the continuation of Interstate 75 toward Dayton! Interstate 75's next goal is to reach Lima, where it bends from southwesterly back to southerly. Past Lima, Interstate 75 serves Wapakoneta, Sidney, Piqua, and Troy. As Interstate 75 is about to enter Dayton, it links with Interstate 70. But Interstate 70 isn't the east-west freeway found in downtown Dayton; US Route 35 is. After Interstate 75 meets US Route 35 in downtown Dayton, it proceeds south into the pseudo-inter-suburban stretch between Dayton and Cincinnati. Interstate 75 is the primary highway serving this corridor of pseudo-suburbia, including Miamisburg, Springboro, Monroe, and the Hamilton and Middletown areas. Finally, Interstate 75 reaches Cincinnati. Interstate 71 joins Interstate 75 south by downtown Cincinnati, and the two Interstates ride together over the Ohio River into Kentucky to conclude their stints in Ohio.
As with all of the Ohio Interstate pages, more information and a full exit list will come in the future. For now, enjoy this general information and a photo of the signage, in a similar fashion to how I do the state and US highway pages.
My photo of Interstate 75 signage in Ohio comes from a guide assembly along Ohio Route 63 in Monroe. This signage in the photo serves traffic heading northbound on Main Street where it intersects Ohio Route 63, an east-west highway. It points out that an interchange accessing Interstate 75 is just to the east, or to the right. This photo was taken in October 2018 as I was touring around southwestern Ohio.
