Ohio State Route 140 is a fairly short route in south-central Ohio. It connects Portsmouth to Oak Hill, employing the use of other routes in accomplishing this goal, as Ohio Route 140 doesn't quite reach either of these two towns. The western end of Ohio Route 140 is at US Route 52, near Sciotodale and the southern end of the Ohio Route 823 bypass. Starting out, Ohio Route 140 passes through a partial interchange with Ohio Route 823 before continuing into the rugged hills, whereas US Route 52 dives southerly to follow the course of the Ohio River. Ohio Route 140 then passes through South Webster before crossing out of Scioto County into Lawrence County. The highway barely gets to poke into Lawrence County before it ends at Ohio Route 93 just south of Oak Hill.
My photo of Ohio State Route 140 comes from the westernmost piece of the route, between Ohio Route 823 and US Route 52. Traffic exiting from Ohio Route 823 for Ohio Route 140 will see the sign assembly in the photo if they decide to turn toward the west. The interchange with Ohio Route 823 is so close to Ohio Route 140's western end at US Route 52 that the junction sign for US Route 52 is placed next to the westbound trailblazer for those who left Ohio Route 823. This photo was taken in March 2021, during my grand tour of the southeastern quarter of Ohio.
