Ohio State Route 685 is a short east-west highway in far northern Athens County. It connects Jacksonville, in the east, to Nelsonville in the west. The eastern start in Jacksonville is on the south side of town, at Ohio Route 13. From there, Ohio Route 685 embarks toward the west, running for only about five miles. The western end is at Ohio Route 78, just shy of reaching Nelsonville. This western end is actually in the hamlet of Buchtel. Ohio Route 78 can be taken southwesterly to Burr Oak Boulevard or other streets leading into Nelsonville proper.
My photo for Ohio Route 685 signage comes from the western end, at Ohio Route 78 in Buchtel. The aperture, and the drivers who would read this signage, looks south along Ohio Route 78. The sign indicates the location of the left turn onto Ohio Route 685 eastward course. This photo was taken in April 2021, as I was moving southeasterly down the US Route 33 corridor toward Virginia.
