Illinois Route 61 zigzags across west-central Illinois, in areas north and northeast of Quincy. It begins near the Mississippi River and goes east, north, east, and north to end west of Macomb.
Illinois 61's western end is at Illinois 96 in Ursa, the next town north of Quincy:

After passing northward through Plymouth, Illinois, Illinois 61 ends at US Route 136, which now also carries another piece of the Illinois 336 designation, just west of the town of Tennessee.
