^A northbound trailblazer that appears just south of Iowa 9, near Spirit Lake, September 2019.

Iowa Route 86 is a short north-south highway in the Spirit Lake area, serving as a continuation of Minnesota Route 86.  The route in Iowa is about thirteen miles long.  The northern end, predictably, is the Minnesota border, where the highway becomes Minnesota Route 86.  From there, Iowa Route 86 heads south, crossing Iowa Route 9, to curve east to its southeastern endpoint at US Route 71. That final terminus at US Route 71 is in the town of Milford.  Iowa Route 86 runs along the west side of Spirit Lake, where as US Route 71 follows along the east side of the lake.

My photo for Iowa Route 86 is at its southern endpoint.  The signage depicted faces south at the junction of US Route 71 and Iowa Route 86.  This photo of signage for northbound traffic on US Route 71 came from my trip across northern Iowa in September 2019. It irks me to see the route with the left arrow on the right side of this assembly.
