^Looking north on Iowa 117 as it starts proceeding away from Interstate 80, June 2016.
Iowa Route 117 is a fairly short north-south highway in areas east and northeast of Des Moines by about ten to fifteen miles. The central Iowa highway runs from near Mingo in the north to Prairie City in the south, passing through Colfax along the way. In greater specifics, the northern endpoint of Iowa Route 117 is the interchange halfway between Des Moines and Marshalltown, where US Route 65 splits from Iowa Route 330. Midway through its journey to the south from that point is an interchange with Interstate 80 near Colfax. The southern endpoint is at Iowa Route 163 on the west side of Prairie City.
My photo of Iowa Route 117 shows a northbound trailblazer reassuring drivers leaving the Interstate 80 interchange to proceed northward. This scene is in the town of Colfax. I pointed the aperture north at this south-facing sign during a trip to Omaha and back in June 2016, sticking to Interstate 80 for the sake of a fast, efficient trip. Back to the Iowa main page.
