US Route 331 runs north-south from Montgomery, Alabama, to the Gulf Coast of the Florida panhandle. Interstate 65 and US Route 31 run together from Indianapolis south to Montgomery, Alabama, but both routes jerk southwesterly at Montgomery so they can reach Mobile. At Montgomery, US Route 331 takes over for Interstate 65 and US Route 31 as the highway continuing straight south. The northern endpoint, to be specific, is at US Route 80 and US Route 82 in Montgomery. US Route 331 passes through small towns in southern Alabama and the Florida panhandle. Just after passing through Freeport, Florida, US Route 331 ends at US Route 98, the highway in Florida's panhandle known for hugging the Gulf of Mexico's coastline.
My photo for US Route 331 is actually the northern end marker in Montgomery. The end marker is part of one of Alabama's many sign salads. The signage in this photo faces south at US Route 331's northernmost junction, with US Route 80 and US Route 82. Getting this photo was another slight detour from my route along Interstate 65 southbound, as part of my first trip to the Gulf Coast in October 2014. Interstate 65 is just to the west of the junction where I took this photo. Back to the nationwide main page. Back to the home page.
