^Looking north from the split with Ohio 43 in Warrensville, October 2022.
Ohio State Route 8 runs from Cleveland to Akron. The northernmost piece is a concurrency with US Route 422, and the southernmost piece is a freeway that seems to serve as an extension to Interstate 271. As many other routes do, Ohio Route 8 has an endpoint at Cleveland's Public Square, right downtown. US Route 422 also starts there, and Ohio Route 8 joins it east out of downtown. At Shaker Heights, Ohio Route 8 finally gets the chance to start out on its own. Ohio Route 8 takes that chance to go straight south as a surface road through other Cleveland suburbs like Bedford and Northfield. At Macedonia, Ohio, Ohio Route 8 crosses Interstate 271 and becomes a freeway. Essentially, Ohio Route 8 spends its last stretch serving as a freeway extension connecting Interstate 271 to Akron. The southern end of this freeway, and Ohio Route 8 itself, occurs at the interchange where Interstate 77 bends from northerly to westerly along Interstate 76.
