Indiana State Route 49 runs north-south in northwest Indiana, from US Route 12 alongside Indiana Dunes National Park, south through Chesterton and Valparaiso, to terminate in rural Jasper County at Indiana Route 14. The section from Interstate 94 near Chesterton to US Route 30 in Valparaiso is mostly an expressway, that allows a link between Interstate 94 and US Route 30, useful for those avoiding tolls charged by the Indiana Toll Road.
My photo for Indiana State Route 49 is on US Route 20 near Chesterton. This is less than a mile south of Indiana Route 49's northern endpoint at US Route 12. The junction of Indiana 49 and US Route 20 is a bit of a makeshift cloverleaf, made from four access roads, one in each quadrant, with each access road ended with a "right-in, right-out" connection. The photo is at the entrance to the ramp connecting eastbound US Route 20 to northbound Route 49. Back to the Indiana main page. Back to the home page.
