Ohio State Route 523 is a very short east-west highway in northern Sandusky County. It lies just west of the western extent of Sandusky Bay, north of Fremont. The eastern end is just west of the Bay, at Ohio Route 53. An interchange with the Ohio Turnpike lies a few miles to the south along Ohio Route 53. From Ohio Route 53, Ohio Route 523 runs toward the west for not even four miles. The western end is another rural intersection north of Fremont, at Ohio Route 19.
My photo for Ohio Route 523 comes from its eastern end, at Ohio Route 53. Ohio Route 523 has the distinction of being the last route marker I photographed, out of the over 560 numbered routes in Ohio. The photo shows a guide assembly used by northbound travelers on Ohio Route 53 to locate the left turn onto Ohio Route 523. This photo was the last route marker photo I took on my last trip for completing my Ohio shield gallery, which included visits to the islands in Lake Erie. That trip was in October 2023.
