^The first southbound trailblazer seen by those leaving Runnells, at the northern end of Iowa 316, October 2021.

Iowa Route 316 is a very short spur from Iowa Route 5 into Runnells, Iowa.  The southern end of Iowa Route 316 is along Iowa Route 5 just east of Des Moines.  From there, Iowa Route 316 performs no other function besides connecting that southern endpoint to Runnells, Iowa.  The northern end bends westerly, and the northern end marker appears next to a sign welcoming travelers to Runnells. That's really all there is to Iowa Route 316, which is about six miles long.

This photo was taken on a rainy morning in October 2021, along the last leg of my trip across southern and western Iowa.
