^Southbound trailblazer greeting those heading south from Interstate 80 at Iowa 149's northern end, June 2016.
Iowa Route 149 is a north-south route in the southern half of eastern Iowa. It almost functions as a southern extension of US Route 151, continuing south of Interstate 80 to Ottumwa. The northern end is indeed at Interstate 80, west of US Route 151's southern terminus, at Williamsburg, Iowa. From there Iowa Route 149 heads primarily south, with several westerly jogs mixed into its route. The southern end of Iowa Route 149 is at US Route 34 in Ottumwa. The southernmost portion, beyond the bypass route of US Route 63, is concurrent with US Route 63's business route through Ottumwa.
My photo for Iowa Route 149 shows the northern end marker, at the route's interchange with Interstate 80 near Williamsburg. The interchange itself is visible in the background, as the aperture looks north toward the interchange. This photo was taken in February 2024, though there used to be another main photo for Iowa Route 149 on this page. That old photo is shown below.
This old photo of Iowa Route 149 also comes from the northern end at Interstate 80, but it's a former southbound trailblazer rather than an end marker for northbound travelers. This photo was taken during a trip down Interstate 80 to Omaha in June 2016. Back to the Iowa main page. Back to the home page.
