Redwood National Park is part of a complex of parks in the northwest corner of California, including Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park.  Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park is home to the first and last bunches of photos on this page.  The first bit of redwoods we visited was along the Stout Grove Trail; the Boy Scout Trail was the last trail we visited.  We also hiked around Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park; that hike appears as part two.

Part 1: Stout Grove Trail

I found it hard to believe that this severed fallen tree trunk just fell in a place that left it suspended over the trail!

Part 2: Prairie Creek Redwoods

Prairie Creek Redwoods is home to "The Big Tree", an exceptionally large redwood whose age is estimated at 1500 years.  The floor is full of ferns, which remind hikers of the "Jurassic Park" movies. In fact, many scenes from the original "Jurassic Park" film were filmed in the Fern Canyon area; we hoped to hike this trail, but we ran out of time.

Part 3: Other Stuff Near Klamath

On the day we visited Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, we also saw some cool things nearby that required shore, quick visits.  One little roadside attraction we saw was the drive-thru redwood tree in Klamath, by the interchange of US Route 101 and California State Route 169.  They carved a tunnel through a giant tree! Come on in and drive through!  I made it through okay...well, actually, I bumped the right side mirror of our rental car along the inside of tunnel. Oops!

The following two pictures are from the Klamath River Overlook.  This amazing vista comes from a short hike up an oceanside cliff.

Part 4: Boy Scout Trail
