Iowa Route 224 is a short north-south connector between Interstate 80 and Iowa Route 14 in central Iowa. The highway starts at Interstate 80, and heads north across US Route 6 and through Kellogg. The northern end is at Iowa Route 14, at a point where Iowa Route 14 continues north off a seven-mile jog to the east. Iowa Route 224 forms a sort of shortcut between Iowa Route 14's northern reaches toward Marshalltown and the eastern progression of Interstate 80. If a driver heads west on Interstate 80 seeking to head north on Iowa Route 14, that driver won't want to go north on Iowa Route 14 just to backtrack east for seven miles; Iowa Route 224 provides a shortcut that prevents that need to backtrack easterly.
My photo of Iowa Route 224 is the first northbound trailblazer seen alongside the interchange with Interstate 80. This is at the southern end of Iowa Route 224. I took this photo in August 2015, on the way home from Omaha; I stopped for gas at this exit off of Interstate 80. Back to the Iowa main page. Back to the home page.
