^The eastbound trailblazer at the northern end where Iowa 224 meets Iowa 14, October 2021.
Iowa Route 224 is a short north-south connector between Interstate 80 and Iowa Route 14 in central Iowa. The highway starts at Interstate 80, and heads north across US Route 6 and through Kellogg. The northern end is at Iowa Route 14, at a point where Iowa Route 14 continues north off a seven-mile jog to the east. Iowa Route 224 forms a sort of shortcut between Iowa Route 14's northern reaches toward Marshalltown and the eastern progression of Interstate 80. If a driver heads west on Interstate 80 seeking to head north on Iowa Route 14, that driver won't want to go north on Iowa Route 14 just to backtrack east for seven miles; Iowa Route 224 provides a shortcut that prevents that need to backtrack easterly.
My photo of Iowa Route 224 shows a northbound trailblazer serving those leaving the interchange with Interstate 80. This is a few miles south of Kellogg, Iowa. The aperture looks north at what a driver will see when they depart from the interchange toward the north. This photo was taken in February 2024. An older photo for Iowa Route 224 once sat on this page and represented the shield image on the menu page as well, seen below.
This photo was the old photo shown on this page, and it shows an older edition of the same northbound trailblazer seen by those heading away from Interstate 80.
