Ohio State Route 500 runs southwest out of Paulding to the Indiana border, in Paulding County. The route cuts southwesterly through the town of Payne, as well. But Ohio Route 500 really only serves Paulding and Payne. The northeastern end in Paulding occurs at Ohio Route 111 on the west side of town. Ohio Route 500 begins with a short southern jog to a southwesterly road. It maintains that southwesterly course overall. As it approaches Payne, it joins Ohio Route 613, and then it joins Ohio Route 49 south out of town. Having just escaped Payne, Ohio Route 500 turns southwesterly again, to end unceremoniously at the Indiana state line.
My photo of Ohio Route 500 comes from the point where Ohio Route 613 first joins Ohio Route 500 southwest into Payne. The signage depicted helps westbound travelers on Ohio Route 613. It helps these travelers understand that Ohio Route 613 makes a slight left onto Ohio Route 500's southwesterly course into the village of Payne. This photo was taken on Leap Day 2016, as I was taking a random route home from Columbus.
