Iowa Route 39 is a north-south highway from Odebolt to Denison, in western Iowa. The highway is about twenty-four miles long, with a slight northeast-southwestern tilt. The southern end is at a concurrency with US Route 59 and Iowa Route 141 in Denison; this southern endpoint is not far north of US Route 30. The northern end of Iowa Route 39 is at Iowa Route 175 in Odebolt, in southwestern Sac County, a few miles west of Iowa Route 471's southern endpoint. (IowaDOT might have chosen to extend Iowa Route 39 instead of christening Iowa Route 471 in the recent shift of US Route 71 eastward in Sac County. But they didn't, so this is a pointless parenthetical diatribe.)
My photo of Iowa Route 39 is the eastbound junction marker along Iowa Route 175 in Odebolt. The signage depicted notifies eastbound traffic on Iowa Route 175 that the northern end of Iowa Route 39 is coming up soon. This photo was taken as part of the September 2019 trip across northern Iowa. Back to the Iowa main page. Back to the home page.
