^Looking south from Exit 34 to US Route 322 near Mayfield Heights, October 2022.
Interstate 271 is an alternate alignment to Interstate 71, intended for those who wish to bypass Cleveland to the east and reach Interstate 90. Unlike other bypasses that loop around to their parent route at a second connection point, Interstate 271 has no parent route to reach on the north side of Cleveland, because Interstate 71 ends in Cleveland! But Interstate 271 is definitely a bypass, and it serves a great deal of traffic. Interstate 90 northeastward is a logical next step for those reaching the end of the northeasterly Interstate 71 corridor, so Interstate 271 helps a lot of people by linking both highways. The southern end of Interstate 271 is near Medina. From there, Interstate 271 goes east-northeasterly for about 18 miles, past Interstate 77. It bends northerly when it meets Ohio Route 8, which extends the north-south part of Interstate 271 south as a freeway to Akron. Interstate 271 goes north through various suburbs, and it shares some pavement with Interstate 480's eastern reaches. As it reaches mile marker 39, Interstate 271 converges with Interstate 90 at Wickliffe, Ohio.
As with all of the Ohio Interstate pages, more information and a full exit list will come in the future. For now, enjoy this general information and a photo of the signage, in a similar fashion to how I do the state and US highway pages. (Though I have driven all of Interstate 271, it was at night, so I didn't get any pictures!)
My photo of Interstate 271 in Ohio comes from US Route 422 in Beachwood, a Cleveland suburb. The junction marker shown is an older-style one, and it serves eastbound travelers on US Route 422 (concurrent with Ohio Route 87). This photo was taken in October 2022, as I was touring all around northeastern Ohio.
