Ohio State Route 289 runs from downtown Youngstown to the Pennsylvania border, alongside the Mahoning River. This gives it an overall southeasterly course. At the northwest corner of Youngstown's inner loop of freeways, US Route 422 comes from the northwest to join the freeway east. The southeasterly course of the surface road that once carried US Route 422 becomes the start of Ohio Route 289. (The inner freeway loop continues southwest from here at Ohio Route 193.) This puts Ohio Route 289 in the position of being the only numbered highway that serves downtown Youngstown anymore. Ohio Route 289 continues southeast beyond this, along the north side of the Mahoning River, serving the two suburbs of Campbell and Struthers. Farther ahead, Ohio Route 289 serves the small border town of Lowellville. A very short distance afterward, Ohio Route 289 ends at the Pennsylvania state line.
My photo for Ohio State Route 289 shows a westbound trailblazer seen by those leaving the 4-way intersection with Ohio Route 616. This intersection is in Struthers, Ohio, at the north end of Ohio Route 616's bridge over the Mahoning River. This photo was taken in April 2021, during a detour through Youngstown to get some sign photos. I was on the way home from Virginia. Back to Ohio Routes 200-299. Back to the Ohio main page.
