Ohio State Route 503 is a fairly long north-south route in western Ohio. As it meets US Route 127 near its northern end and at its southern end, it might be considered an eastern alternate to US Route 127. In the south, Ohio Route 503 splits from US Route 127 in the small town of Seven Mile, just west of Trenton and Middletown. From this point in Butler County, Ohio Route 503 sets off toward the north, to cross the eastern side of Preble County. After meeting an interchange with Interstate 70 in Lewisburg, Ohio Route 503 continues north to the Darke County line, where it bends northwesterly. It passes through Ithaca, and reaches US Route 127 once again, south of Greenville. Ohio Route 503 isn't quite done yet though; it continues a little farther northwesterly to end at Ohio Route 121 near Fort Jefferson.
My photo of Ohio Route 503 comes from its northern junction with US Route 127 in Darke County, several miles south of Greenville. The photo looks northwest at a trailblazer seen by those turning left off of northbound US Route 127, or turning right off of southbound US Route 127. This photo was taken in September 2017, on a way to Columbus that involved a detour to Greenville.
