Ohio State Route 691 is a short, winding, north-south route in western Athens County. On the south side of Nelsonville, the western extent of Ohio Route 78 bends southward to meet US Route 33 at a diamond interchange. At this interchange, Ohio Route 78 ends, but the pavement continues south as the northern beginning of Ohio Route 691. The business alignment of US Route 33 for Nelsonville also has its southern end here, and it uses Ohio Route 691 for a short while to reach the primary street it uses to head northwesterly into Nelsonville. Now, Ohio Route 691 really gets started by heading south into rural areas. It winds around through the rural hillsides and that's really all it does. After about ten miles of heading southward, Ohio Route 691 ends at Ohio Route 56 near New Marshfield.
My photo for Ohio Route 691 shows a trailblazer seen by those leaving the intersection where Business US Route 33 splits off toward Nelsonville. This is just a bit south of where Ohio Route 691 begins at the main US Route 33 freeway. I looked south taking this photo, with my back to that intersection where Business US Route 33 turned right toward the northwest. This trailblazer shows the people leaving that intersection toward the southwest that they are on Ohio Route 691. This photo was taken in April 2021, as I was using the US Route 33 corridor to head toward the state of Virginia.
