Ohio State Route 146 runs east-west where east-central Ohio meets central Ohio. The route connects Hanover to Zanesville to Summerfield. The western end of Ohio Route 146 is a split with Ohio Route 16 at the town of Hanover, just east of Newark. Ohio Route 146 heads east-southeasterly as Ohio Route 16 opts for a more northeasterly course. The first goal of Ohio Route 146 is to reach the city of Zanesville. It continues moving east-southeasterly overall until it approaches the small town of Cumberland. At Cumberland, Ohio Route 146 bends more northeasterly to Pleasant City. At Pleasant City, Ohio Route 146 plunges south, eventually returning to a southeasterly direction so it can reach Sarahsville. The last piece of Ohio Route 146 heads east on an indirect course to reach the final destination of Summerfield. In Summerfield, Ohio Route 146 meets the southern end Ohio Route 513 just before ending at Ohio Route 78.
My photo of Ohio State Route 146 comes from its junction with Ohio Route 672's western end, just east of Cumberland, Ohio. As Ohio Route 146 is heading eastward away from Cumberland, a fork in the road appears to drivers. Staying left allows drivers to stay on Ohio Route 146, and the road deviating to the right is the beginning of Ohio Route 672. Those coming from the northeast on Ohio Route 146 see the signs in the photo above, clarifying that Ohio Route 146 continues with a slight turn to the right. This photo was taken during the tour around the southeastern quarter of Ohio in March 2021.
