Ohio State Route 735 is a tiny route near the Ohio River just upstream of Gallipolis. It comprises the remainder of a freeway stub that got ditched by US Route 35 for a bridge over the Ohio River into Henderson, West Virginia. From Jackson to Gallipolis, US Route 35 is an expressway, even gaining full freeway status at times. That freeway ends at an at-grade intersection with Ohio Route 7 along the river. But, three-quarters of a mile before the freeway reaches Ohio Route 7, US Route 35 splits from the freeway to exit Ohio on a bridge over the Ohio River. That left behind a small unnumbered freeway segment stretching for only three-quarters of a mile. Ohio Route 735 is the designation that was given to that three-quarters of a mile. Nowadays, it can essentially be considered a glorified ramp connecting Ohio Route 7 to and from points west along US Route 35.
My photo for Ohio Route 735 comes from Ohio Route 7, at the eastern end of the freeway stub. The junction marker shown serves northbound travelers on Ohio Route 7 who are anticipating the chance to turn left onto Ohio Route 735. Note that a control city for US Route 35 westbound is used on the signage here, but no control city for eastbound appears. By this point, the chance to turn onto a ramp to US Route 35 eastward, into West Virginia, has already passed; US Route 35's bridge is just south of here. This photo was taken in March 2021 during my grand tour around southeastern Ohio.
