^Looking north from where US Route 127 splits from US Route 52 in Cincinnati, August 2024.
US Route 127 runs north-south through all of the Ohio counties along the Indiana border. Besides US Route 27 in southwestern Ohio, US Route 127 is commonly the westernmost north-south highway in Ohio with a high profile. From the south, US Route 127 enters Ohio on the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge into Cincinnati, along with US Route 27 and US Route 42. US Route 127 finds its way through the western edge of downtown Cincinnati to continue northward independently into the north side of the city. Beyond the Cincinnati area, US Route 127 is typically a surface route, and it serves a lot of important towns and county seats, like Hamilton and Eaton. North of Interstate 70, US Route 127 reaches Greenville, where it has a short stint as an expressway bypass around the east side of the city. Moving on to northwestern portions of Ohio, US Route 127 serves Celina, Van Wert, Paulding, and Bryan. At Bryan, US Route 127 jogs a bit eastward and northeastward through West Unity, Ohio. Near Fayette, Ohio, US Route 127 jogs easterly one last time along US Route 20 to join the alignment it rides over the state line into Michigan, where it is a major player in that state's highway network.
My photo of US Route 127 in Ohio comes from the north side of Paulding, Ohio, where the US highway leaves town toward the north carrying Ohio Route 111 along with it. This pair of trailblazers demonstrates just that, informing northbound travelers that they are on both routes as they leave town. This photo was taken in September 2017, as I was taking a wonky route home from Columbus that involved a lot of US Route 127 between Greenville and Bryan. Back to the Ohio US Highways page.
