Ohio State Route 170 is a north-south highway along the Pennsylvania border. It begins just north of East Liverpool, near the point where Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia all meet. The point of beginning is along the southern extent of the Ohio Route 11 freeway, which also carries US Route 30 and Ohio Route 7. Whereas the freeway bends northwesterly, Ohio Route 170 starts off toward the northeast, soon correcting to a northerly direction. Ohio Route 170 passes through East Palestine, and begins curving north-northwesterly at Petersburg. It passes through Poland and bends westerly at Struthers. It continues westerly for several miles before bending northerly on the south side of Youngstown. That northern stint is very short, reaching the northern end of Ohio Route 170 at US Route 62.
My photo of Ohio State Route 170 comes from its junction with Ohio Route 617 in Petersburg. As Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road crosses from Pennsylvania to Ohio, heading north-northwesterly, it carries Ohio Route 617 into Petersburg, Ohio. In Petersburg, Ohio Route 617 turns left toward the west, but that western leg also carries Ohio Route 170. Ohio Route 170 is jogging easterly here, and it takes over as the route going north-northwesterly along Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road. The photo shows signage facing north at southbound traffic on Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road. The road is carrying Ohio Route 170, which turns toward the west at the upcoming junction, but Ohio Route 617 replaces it continuing southward. This photo was taken in April 2021, on the way home from Virginia via Youngstown. Back to Ohio Routes 100-199. Back to the Ohio main page. Back to the home page.
