Michigan Highway 116 provides access from Ludington to Ludington State Park's beach, running along the eastern shores of Lake Michigan. Ludington is in west-central Michigan, and it is where US Route 10 boards a ferry to Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The southern end of Michigan Highway 116 is in downtown Ludington at US Route 10. The northern end is simply the entrance booth into Ludington State Park.
My photo of Michigan Highway 116 comes from the point where the route turns from southerly to easterly in Ludington. Drivers seeing this sign probably just turned from southbound to the final eastbound stretch approaching US Route 10. Since the numerals on this sign are in Series D, I think they look better than many of the other "M-116" markers whose numerals are in the skinny series B. This photo was taken on a trip to Grand Rapids and Ludington in July 2023.
