With the immense presence of Interstate 57 in the state of Illinois (and no other state), it's hard to find a place into which a state route numbered 57 can be squeezed, without drivers confusing it for the Interstate with the same number. However, IDOT found a place for an Illinois Route 57 that's far enough from Interstate 57, and it's a small corridor descending southward from Quincy, in the westernmost extent of Illinois. Illinois 57 only runs for about twelve miles from Quincy south and east to an interchange with Interstate 172, near that freeway's southern end.

Illinois 57 runs within fairly close proximity to the Mississippi River, curving southeasterly through Marblehead to end at a fountain interchange with Interstate 172.
