^Looking west at the split with Iowa 70 in Nichols, October 2021.
Iowa Route 22 is an east-west highway connecting Davenport and Muscatine to points west. It makes it about a quarter of the way across the state of Iowa, ending at Iowa Route 21 near the towns of Thornburg and What Cheer. Iowa Route 22's eastern end is at Business US Route 61 on the southwestern fringes of Davenport, Iowa. The eastern endpoint may seem a little out-of-place, but Davenport has recently been assuming control of many of IowaDOT's surface roads within the Interstate beltways forming a periphery around the city. For its entire length, Iowa Route 22 parallels Interstate 80 to the south by about ten to fifteen miles.
My photo of Iowa Route 22 comes from Nichols, Iowa, at the western end of its concurrency with Iowa Route 70. The concurrency is a short one, situated ten to fifteen miles west of Muscatine. The sign assembly depicted faces east, indicating the split between Iowa Routes 22 and 70. Iowa 70 turns left to resume its overall southerly pathing. This photo was taken in October 2021, as part of the southern Iowa trip. Back to the Iowa main page. Back to the home page.
