Interstate 25 is the definitive north-south freeway through the Rocky Mountain states. It connects El Paso, Texas, to Billings, Montana, without quite reaching either locale on its own; El Paso requires a connection along Interstate 10, and Billings requires a connection with Interstate 90. The exact endpoints of Interstate 25 are at Interstate 90 in the north at Buffalo, Wyoming, and at Interstate 10 in the south at Las Cruces, New Mexico. Cities that Interstate 25 passes through on its own include Casper in Cheyenne in Wyoming; Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo in Colorado; and Santa Fe and Albuquerque in New Mexico. From the northern split with Interstate 90 in Buffalo, Wyoming, Interstate 25 heads south to Casper, where it bends east toward Douglas, Wyoming. At Douglas, Interstate 25 straightens out to head south through Cheyenne and along the base of the Colorado Rockies. After passing through Colorado and many of its most important cities, it reaches New Mexico, bending drastically to the west so it can provide access to Santa Fe and Albuquerque. It finishes its route by passing down the middle section of New Mexico, ending at Interstate 10 in Las Cruces. Interstate 10 turns southerly here, toward El Paso, Texas, meaning that it's a seamless transition for southbound traffic on Interstate 25 to continue southbound into El Paso.
An older photo was once featured on this site for Interstate 25, but that photo has since been replaced by a newer, better photo. Rest assured, though, that the older photo is still available for viewing; it has simply been moved to the bottom of the page instead.
My photo of Interstate 25 signage shows a guide marker in Pueblo, Colorado. Exit 100B to 29th Street is missing a northbound onramp, so the sign here shows westbound travelers on 29th Street how to transit northward to access Interstate 25 northbound. This sign sends people north on Elizabeth Street to the US Route 50 interchange if they want to get on Interstate 25. This photo was taken during the Southwest trip of October 2024.

My former photo of an Interstate 25 marker comes from Buffalo, Wyoming, just shy of the highway's northern endpoint. The aperture is looking down US Route 16 to the east. The "TO" banner over Interstate 25's shield should be a "JCT" banner, as the interchange with Interstate 25 is just ahead into the photo; in fact, you can see the Interstate 25 overpass very easily in the background. Another interchange, where US Route 16 meets Interstate 90, lies a couple more miles to the east, into the photo. I have an upcoming trip that uses a big chunk of Interstate 25 farther south, so this photo may get replaced at this point. I just happened upon this sign photo opportunity coming home from our drive to the Pacific Ocean in August 2018 (the drive home featured a visit to Yellowstone National Park).
