^Looking north from the eastern end of Indiana 156, February 2017.
Indiana State Route 56 runs east-west across nearly the entire width of southern Indiana. In southeastern Indiana, State Route 56 is close to the Ohio River. The western end is at US Route 41 by Hazleton, and the eastern end bends north as the Ohio River bends north, ultimately meeting US Route 50 in Aurora. Indiana Route 56 passes through a lot of important towns in southern Indiana, such as Petersburg, Jasper, French Lick, Paoli, Salem, and Madison.
My photo of Indiana State Route 56 is the westbound trailblazer coming off its turn from the south to the west, where Indiana Route 156 takes over as the road following along the Ohio River. This is just south of Rising Sun, and right next to the northwest bank of the Ohio River. Back to the Indiana main page. Back to the home page.
