Ohio State Route 550 runs east-west in southeastern Ohio, connecting the Athens area to the Marietta area. Columbus Road, which once carried Ohio Route 13, runs north out of downtown Athens to an interchange with US Route 33. At this interchange, Ohio Route 13 and Ohio Route 550 both appear, running north along Columbus Road. Soon, Ohio Route 550 turns easterly and it starts to do it s thing. It passes through Amesville and Barlow, two tiny towns. Otherwise, Ohio Route 550 is completely rural, ending 39 miles after its inception. The eastern end is Ohio Route 7, just west of Marietta and west of the Muskingum River's outflow into the Ohio River.
My photo for Ohio Route 550 comes from very near the western end. The trailblazer depicted greets travelers turning east off of Ohio Route 13, just after the shared point of beginning. This photo was taken in April 2021, on a trip along the US Route 33 corridor when I was bound for Virginia.
