Illinois Route 47 is a long north-south highway in northeastern and east-central Illinois. It runs from the Wisconsin border, south of Lake Geneva, south through the far western reaches of exurban Chicagoland, to end just west of Champaign.
Illinois 47's northern end is the point where Wisconsin Highway 120 crosses the state border into Illinois, south of Lake Geneva:
At Starks, Illinois 47 meets a junction where Illinois 72 comes from the east and US Route 20 comes from the west, and both routes join Illinois 47 southward:
After just under a mile, Illinois 47 meets another junction, where Illinois 72 departs to the west and US Route 20 departs to the east:
At an interchange that recently was revamped from a partial one to a full one, Illinois 47 connects with Interstate 88:
At another interchange in Sugar Grove, Illinois 47 meets the western end of the Illinois 56freeway that continues west as US Route 30, and US Route 30 joins Illinois 47 south from that western leg of the junction:
West of Montgomery, Illinois 47 sends US Route 30 to continue eastward:
