Ohio State Route 249 is a short, straight, east-west highway on the western edge of northwestern Ohio. And I mean "the western edge", as the western end of the route is at the Indiana border. From this border crossing a few miles southeast of Butler, Indiana, Ohio Route 249 heads easterly through farm country for about fifteen miles. It passes through the hamlet named "Farmer" at Ohio Route 2. Though the road continues easterly, the eastern end of the Ohio Route 249 designation occurs as Ohio Route 15 intercepts it from the northwest. The road continues east at Ohio Route 15 through the town of Ney. All of Ohio Route 249 is in Defiance County.
