Ohio State Route 97 is an overall east-west route, winding around areas west and south of Mansfield. It serves the towns of Galion, Lexington, Bellville, Butler, and Loudonville. The western end in Galion begins along the main street heading east through Galion, Harding Way. Ohio Routes 19, 61, and 309 all follow Harding Way until Ohio Routes 61 and 309 cut off toward the north. Ohio Route 19 continues east from this point, and so does the newly-formed Ohio Route 97. Soon, Ohio Route 19 turns off toward the south, and Ohio Route 97 is left on its own to explore toward the east and southeast. After that, Ohio Route 97 joins US Route 42 east for a bit through Lexington. Ohio Route 97 soon splits to the south, and continues southeasterly. It meets Ohio Route 13 at Bellville, and it meets Ohio Route 95 at Butler. The last part of Ohio Route 97 proceeds east from Butler to its eastern terminus at Ohio Route 3, just south of Loudonville.
My photo of Ohio State Route 97 comes from its junction with Interstate 71, between Lexington and Bellville. The westbound trailblazer shown faces southeasterly, so northwesterly travelers can know the result of their decisions at this diamond interchange. This photo was taken as I was setting out toward home from my trip to northeastern Ohio in October 2022.
