Ohio State Route 616 serves Struthers and Hubbard, in eastern parts of the Youngstown area. The highway runs south from the central junction of Hubbard, Ohio, where Ohio Route 7, US Route 62, and Ohio Route 304 come together. Ohio Route 304 runs east-west through the junction, which Ohio Route 7 and US Route 62 both come from the west to continue north. Ohio Route 616 is created to occupy that southern leg of the intersection, and it continues onward to Struthers, where it fenagles its way onto a bridge across the Mahoning River. It twists its way southwest to end in Poland, at US Route 224 and Ohio Route 170.
My photo for Ohio Route 616 comes from a corner that's about a mile northeast of its crossing of the Mahoning River. This corner is where Upland Avenue meets Struthers-Liberty Road. Ohio Route 616 is turning from northerly to easterly at this intersection, and the guide marker aims to explain this. This photo was taken during the return trip from Virginia, in April 2021, where I took a detour to snap some photos in the Youngstown area.
