Interstate 275 is a bypass around the west side of Detroit, Michigan, serving as an alternate to Interstate 75. While Interstate 75 makes a slight detour to the east so it can serve downtown Detroit, Interstate 275 allows thru traffic the opportunity to bypass the city. It can't complete this goal along, however; as Interstate 275 fails to make it any farther north than Interstates 96 and 696, it can't fulfill its goal of bypassing Detroit all by itself. Interstate 696 comes to the rescue, though, and it flanks the city of Detroit to the north. The southern end of Interstate 275 is at Interstate 75 south of Detroit's Wayne County Airport. The northern end of Interstate 275 is at an interchange along Interstate 96: an interchange that also serves as the western end of Interstate 696. The freeway bypass around Detroit seamlessly transitions from the northern end of Interstate 275 into Interstate 696, and vice versa (in the opposite direction). Coming from the north on Interstate 75, you'll need to jog west on Interstate 696 to Interstate 275 to use the freeway bypass. Alternately, if you'd like to seek a less proximal freeway bypass between Flint and Toledo, you can also choose to use the US Route 23 freeway.
My photo of a cutout shield for Interstate 275 comes from Interstate 275's interchange with US Route 12 in Canton. Westbound travelers on US Route 12 will see this sign and be alerted that the junction with Interstate 275 is just ahead. In recent years, the adoption of unisigns for Michigan's Interstate junctions has made cutout shields difficult to find across the state. Usually, I'm relegated to finding these cutout shields on "To" guide markers, distant from the Interstate itself. The cutout shield in this photo was fortunately right at the junction with the Interstate! This photo was taken in April 2021, as I was traveling to Metro Detroit and the Michigan Thumb.
Michigan Interstate guides will come with complete exit lists and a photo for every exit, at some point in the future when I've driven the full lengths of all of them. This page showing the cutout shield will stay here for now, until that happens.
