Ohio State Route 59 is a multifaceted route in Portage and Summit Counties. It consists of the Innerbelt of Akron and an east-west surface route serving Stow, Kent, and Ravenna. The eastern start of Ohio Route 59 splits from Ohio Route 5 just east of Ravenna. While Ohio Route 5 opts to navigate south to skip Ravenna, Ohio Route 59 has the resolve to serve the town directly, heading straight west. Ohio Route 59 proceeds through Ravenna to Kent, which Ohio Route 59 also passes directly through. Next, Ohio Route 59 crosses Ohio Route 91 in Stow, where the route bends southwesterly toward Cuyahoga Falls. As Ohio Route 59 reaches Cuyahoga Falls, it joins the Ohio Route 8 freeway south. It's needed elsewhere, as a designation for the short Innerbelt expressway on the west side of downtown Akron. Ohio Route 59 exits Ohio Route 8 onto Perkins Street west, so it can reach the northern extent of the expressway. Ohio Route 59 finishes its course by riding the Innerbelt south to Interstate 76, where it ends. Note that the southern end of the Innerbelt will spill onto Interstate 76 westbound; no access to or from the east is provided.
My photo of Ohio State Route 59 shows a westbound reassurance marker very near its eastern end, at Ohio Route 14 and Ohio Route 44 on the east side of Ravenna. As previously discussed, Ohio Route 5 runs south around the south side of Ravenna. Ohio Route 14 and Ohio Route 44 are also trying to circle around Ravenna, but they take a northern course around town. Ohio Route 14 and Ohio Route 44 concurrently meet a four-way intersection with Ohio Route 59, and travelers leaving that intersection toward the west will see what's shown in the photo above. This photo was taken during the October 2022 tour of northeastern Ohio.
