^Looking south after Ohio 117 was just going west into a left-oriented bend just west of US Route 127, March 2021.
Ohio State Route 117 runs from Rockford to Lima to Huntsville. West of Lima, Ohio Route 117 has an east-west alignment, but on the other side of Lima, Ohio Route 117 runs southeasterly. The beginning of Ohio Route 117, in Rockford, is at Ohio Route 118, just north of US Route 33 and the heart of that town. From there, Ohio Route 117 runs easterly. It passes through Spencerville, where it meets Ohio Route 66. After that, Ohio Route 117 heads for Lima, where it serves as a principal east-west highway. In Lima, Ohio Route 117 joins Ohio Route 309 eastward through an interchange with Interstate 75. It is here that Ohio Route 309 takes over as the eastward highway. Ohio Route 117 then decides to serve a different purpose: connecting Lima with points to the southeast. Ohio Route 117 serves Westminster and Roundhead before entering Logan County. Ohio Route 117 ends at US Route 33 in Huntsville, Ohio, just northwest of Bellefontaine. I wonder if Ohio Route 117 can be considered an alternate to US Route 33, since it starts and ends either at US Route 33, or extremely close to it.
My photo of Ohio State Route 117 comes from Huntsville, Ohio, just northwest of its southeastern end at US Route 33. In Huntsville, Ohio Route 274 joins Ohio Route 117 through town for a short while. The sign assembly in the picture serves westbound travelers on Ohio Route 274, informing them that continuing along Ohio Route 274 requires a turn to the north along Ohio Route 117 for a while. This photo was taken on Leap Day 2016, as I was taking the back roads northwest from Columbus (roughly along the US Route 33 corridor). Back to Ohio Routes 100-199. Back to the Ohio main page.
