Ohio State Route 744 is a short east-west highway in northeastern Butler County whose western end barely pokes north into Preble County. It indirectly connects Middletown to Somerville. The eastern end is the point where Ohio Route 122 changes from a westerly route to a northerly route; the westward course continues as Ohio Route 744, west of Middletown. From this eastern endpoint of Ohio Route 744, the highway runs westerly, crossing Ohio Route 503 and arriving in Somerville. In Somerville, Ohio Route 744 nudges north across the county line into Preble County, where it ends at US Route 127.
My photo for Ohio Route 744 signage comes from the western end of the route, at US Route 127. The aperture looks south at a sign assembly whose arrow points...east? The road used by Ohio Route 744 passes under US Route 127, so a small connector road is provided at the southwest quadrant of the crossing. Ohio Route 744 starts by using the small connector road westerly and then northerly, before turning easterly on the main road that is uses to reach Somerville and beyond. This photo was taken on the way home from the southwestern Ohio tour in October 2018.
