Illinois Route 29 runs north-south in north-central and central Illinois, connecting the Illinois Valley region to Peoria, then Springfield, then Pana. Illinois 29's northern end is in Spring Valley, at the west end of the Illinois Valley region, then follows the west bank of the Illinois River to Peoria. After Peoria, Illinois 29 crosses the Illinois River and provides the most direct rural connection to Springfield, and Illinois 29's last segment runs southeast from Springfield to Pana.
