Ohio State Route 226 is a short route in Wayne County and northwestern Holmes County, meant to serve the town of Shreve. Both ends occur at the northeasterly Ohio Route 3, so Ohio Route 226 can be seen as a southern alternate to Ohio Route 3. Ohio Route 226 begins about 4 miles east of Loudonville, and it heads east straddling the county line between Wayne and Holmes Counties. As it meets Ohio Route 514, it turns northeasterly to replace Ohio Route 514 as the state highway number on that northeasterly road. Soon after, Ohio Route 226 passes through Shreve. Beyond that, Ohio Route 226 runs north-northeasterly to end on the southwest side of Wooster, at Ohio Route 3.
My photo for Ohio State Route 226 shows the northbound trailblazer by those leaving the junction with Ohio Route 514. The turn onto the northeasterly alignment toward Shreve would have just been completed by anybody looking at the scene in this photograph. This photo was taken on an October morning in 2022, as part of the northeastern Ohio trip. Back to Ohio Routes 200-299. Back to the Ohio main page. Back to the home page.
