US Route 280 runs through the American southeast, from Birmingham, Alabama, to near Savannah, Georgia. The western end is concurrent with US Route 31 at Interstates 20 and 59 in downtown Birmingham. From there, US Route 280 runs southeast through Columbus, Georgia, and Cordele, Georgia. Then it runs east from Cordele to US Route 80 just shy of reaching Savannah.
My photo for US Route 280 shows a sign assembly on the northbound offramp from Interstate 75 in Cordele, Georgia. The extra-wide shield shape used for the three-digit number is common in most parts of the country, but not in Georgia. So this nice photo of a nice, easy-to-read 3-digit route shield is unusual for Georgia. I was on my way home from the detour I took at the end of my second trip to the Gulf Coast in November 2016.
