Ohio State Route 144 runs northwest-southeast in southeastern Athens County. The southeastern corner of Athens County reaches out to a piece of shoreline along the Ohio River, and so does Ohio Route 144. The whole route follows very closely along the lowest stretch of the Hocking River. The northwestern end of Ohio Route 144 is at Ohio Route 329 in the small town called Stewart. Ohio Route 144 runs southeast along the Hocking River from there. Farther down the river, Ohio Route 144 crosses an intersection with US Route 50, which is also concurrent with Ohio Route 32, and Ohio Route 7, at Coolville. Just after passing through Coolville, Ohio Route 144 crosses from the west side of the Hocking River to the east side. It keeps following the riverbank, though, until it ends at Ohio Route 124 in Hockingport.
My photo of Ohio State Route 144 comes from the junction with US Route 50, Ohio Route 32, and Ohio Route 7, at Coolville. The signage depicted faces travelers who turn toward the north from that junction onto Ohio Route 144. This photo was taken in March 2021, during my trip around southeastern Ohio.
