^Ohio 116 continues north beyond Ohio 197 north of St. Marys, April 2026.

​Ohio State Route 116 is a route zigzagging along rural roads in Van Wert and Auglaize Counties. It runs easterly and southerly from Van Wert to Saint Marys.  The northwestern end in Van Wert is at US Route 127 on the south side of town.  It heads east for about six miles before bending toward the south; at this southerly bend, Ohio Route 697 takes over as the easterly state highway. Now on its way southward, Ohio Route 116 passes through Venedocia. It soon enters Auglaize County, where it is forced to take a detour around a cemetery, cutting easterly, southerly, westerly, and southerly again.  Ultimately, Ohio Route 116 ends in the center of Saint Marys, but not until it joins Ohio Route 29.  At a junction that carries Ohio Route 66 through and hosts the eastern terminus of Ohio Route 703, Ohio Route 116 ends while Ohio Route 29 is allowed to proceed toward the east.

My new photo of Ohio State Route 116 comes from its 4-way intersection with Ohio Route 197, north of Saint Marys. Eastbound travelers on Ohio 197 see this sign as they cross through the intersection. This photo was taken in April 2026 while driving around western Ohio. If you're hypothesizing that it was a rainy day when I took this photo, your hypothesis is correct!

My formerly featured photo of Ohio State Route 116 comes from Saint Marys, along Ohio Route 29.  As Ohio Route 29 moves easterly through town, Ohio Route 116 comes from the north to join Ohio Route 29 east. The guide marker depicted announces to easterly traffic that this is about to happen. This photo was taken in June 2016 on the way to Columbus.
