Ohio State Route 116 is a route zigzagging along rural roads in Van Wert and Auglaize Counties. It runs easterly and southerly from Van Wert to Saint Marys. The northwestern end in Van Wert is at US Route 127 on the south side of town. It heads east for about six miles before bending toward the south; at this southerly bend, Ohio Route 697 takes over as the easterly state highway. Now on its way southward, Ohio Route 116 passes through Venedocia. It soon enters Auglaize County, where it is forced to take a detour around a cemetery, cutting easterly, southerly, westerly, and southerly again. Ultimately, Ohio Route 116 ends in the center of Saint Marys, but not until it joins Ohio Route 29. At a junction that carries Ohio Route 66 through and hosts the eastern terminus of Ohio Route 703, Ohio Route 116 ends while Ohio Route 29 is allowed to proceed toward the east.
